iSCSI Connection with Cisco HyperFlex

In this post we will describe how to configure iSCSI and mount iSCSI LUN to a Windows Server
with Cisco HyperFlex Connect.

1. Login into HyperFlex system with Cisco HyperFlex Connect.

2. Click iSCSI and then, in the iSCSI CONFIGURATION and click Configure Network.

In the Configure iSCSI Network, enter the required information and then click Configure.

When the configuration is completed, you will see a success message.

3. Remote into Windows Server, then launch the Server Manager and click Tools > iSCSI Initiator.

4. In the iSCSI Initiator Properties, click Configuration and then copy the
contents of the Initiator Name.

5. Go back to Cisco HyperFlex Connect and create the initiator group.

In HyperFlex Connect, click iSCSI CONFIGURATION, then select Initiator Groups and click Create.

6. Specific Initiator Group Name and paste the initiator name you copied from the Windows server (Step 4) into into Initiator IQN field.

Click Add Initiators and then click Create Initiator Group.

7. Create a target in HyperFlex Connect. In the iSCSI CONFIGURATION, click Targets and then click Create.

Specific the Target Name, then click Create Target.

8. Link Initiator Group with the Target. In the iSCSI CONFIGURATION, click Initiator Groups and then click Linked Targets, then click Link.

9. In the Link Initiator Groups, click the check box of your target and then click Linked Initiator Groups.

You will see a message indicating that the link is created successfully.

10. Now we go back to Windows Server. In the iSCSI Initiator Properties, click Discovery and then click Discover Portal.

In the Discover Target Portal, enter the storage IP address (Step 2) in the IP address or DNS name field, and then click OK.

11. In the iSCSI Initiator Properties, click Targets then click Connect. In the Connect to Target, verify the Target name and click OK.

Now the target status is Connected. The connection of Windows Server and the iSCSI storage is successfully completed.

NOTE: If you created multi targets on HyperFlex, we will see multi target names. In this demo, we only created a target on HyperFlex.

12. Now we can create a iSCSI LUN in HyperFlex. In the iSCSI CONFIGURATION, click LUNs and then click Create LUN.

Specific the LUN Name and Size, click Create LUN.

We can see a iSCSI LUN with 100GB size is successfully completed.

13. Go to the Disk Management in Windows and Disk 2 is offline. Right-click Disk 2, select Initiate Disk and create a New Simple Volume.

14. Finally assign Drive Letter for Disk 2.
