AHV – Async Data Replication Configuration

In this post, I will show how to setup Async data replication configuration across two Nutanix AHV cluster. Below is the system infrastructure for this demonstration.

Now you start to setup the Async data replication on AHV cluster. Login into Prism dashboard.

Select the VM menu, then enable Nutanix VSS snapshots on virtual machine that will replicate to DR AHV cluster. Click “Manage Guest Tools“.

Check the box for Enable Nutanix Guest Tools and Mount Nutanix Guest Tools
then click Submit. Then we need to run the NGT installer script in the virtual machine.

After that, you can configure the Remote Site on XC-Cluster-01. In the Remote Site, input the information of Site 2 and click Add Site.

The remote site created successfully.

Setup the Network Mapping and Vstore Name Mapping on Source Cluster and Destination Cluster, click Save.

Repeat the same procedure, go to DR AHV cluster and apply same settings.

After that you can see both AVH cluster connected to the Remote Site.

Now you can start to setup the Async data replication, select Async DR.

Input the Async DR Name, then click Create.

Select the virtual machine you plan to replicate to DR AHV cluster and select “Use Application consistent snapshots”, click Next.

Setup the schedule for Async data replication.

You can configure the local schedule and retention policy, click Create Schedule.

The Async data replication is created once when clicking Close.

The Async data replication starts between two AHV clusters. After a few minutes, you can see the VM local snapshots in Local Snapshots tab.

You have successfully configured a Async DR Protection Domain between two AHV Clusters!
