Add NAS Filer on Veeam v11

Veeam integrates directly with ONTAP APIs for NAS file backups in order to take advantage of native
ONTAP snapshots, which provide faster data access with no impact on production workloads.

Environment: Veeam Backup & Replication version 11 and NetApp ONTAP 9.8

On the left hand navigation menu, click Storage Infrastructure. Click Add Storage.

Click NetApp.

Click Data ONTAP. The “New NetApp Data ONTAP Storage” wizard will open.

Under “Management server DNS name or IP address, input the management IP address of NetApp ONTAP storage.

Select NAS filer and click Next.

In the Credentials drop-down menu select admin or create an admin’s credentials, click Next.

Choose which volumes you want to backup.

Expand ONTAP > cluster1 > svm1 and select svm1_root.

Click Next.

On the Summary page, click Finish to integrate the ONTAP cluster with Veeam.

On the Storage Discovery window click Close.

In order to back up file shares residing on NetApp storage, you must add the storage system to the inventory of
the virtual infrastructure.

On the left-hand navigation pane, click Inventory. Click Add File Share.

Select NAS filer.

In the “Select NAS filer:” drop-down menu select NetApp ONTAP cluster.

In the credentials drop-down menu, select the administrator account for NetApp ONTAP cluster. Click Next.

Click Apply.

Click Close on the Storage Discovery window. Now Veeam is ready to start backing up ONTAP NAS data.
