EMC PowerPath Virtual Appliance Version 2.0.1

PowerPath Virtual Appliance is a VM-based virtual appliance.  The PowerPath Virtual Appliance is installed and configured separately from the PowerPath/VE multi-pathing product. It provides simplified RTOOLS deployment and introduces enhanced license management for PowerPath/VE for VMware vSphere.

PowerPath Virtual Appliance Installation

Firstly download the PP virutal appliance on http://support.emc.com, then import the ova into VMware environment by VMware vSphere Client or Web Client. After that open web browser and input https://<ppva IP address>>

PS: User is root, Password is defined during ova deployment

  1. Register the VMware vCenter into PowerPath Appliance

2. After that go to PowerPath Monitor, you can see all ESXi host which is managed by vCenter, under EMC Powerpath Applicance monitoring. PPVA cannot monitor that ESXi host if it doesn’t install EMC PowerPath/VE.

3. Can view the status of each EMC LUN and # of Path on LUN VIEW tab.

4. It also support to manage the status of each EMC LUN in vSphere host by using EMC Power RTOOLs

5. It also support to monitor the physical hosts which installed EMC PowerPath, eg Microsoft Windows, Linux, AIX, Solaris and HP-UX.

EMC VSI for VMware vSphere Web Client 6.7

The EMC Virtual Storage Integrator (VSI) for VMware vSphere Web Client is a plug-in for
VMware vCenter. It enables administrators to view, manage, and optimize storage for
VMware ESX/ESXi servers and hosts and then map that storage to the hosts.

Deploy VSI 6.7

Firstly download the OVA appliance (Solutions Integration Service) at https://support.emc.com. Before deploy OVA, please prepare one IP address for this virtual appliance. Then deploy OVA into vSphere ESXi environment.

After deployed the OVA, open web browser and input https://<ova’s IP address>:8443/vsi_usm , then Login And Change Password (the default username is “admin” and the default password is “ChangeMe”)

Then choose VSI Setup and Register VMware vCenter Server

After registered vCenter Server on VSI, in the Left Navigation Panel of vCenter and You Should See The Category EMC VSI At the Bottom, VSI 6.7 Has Been Successfully Installed.

Select Solutions Integration Service and register EMC Solutions Integration Service

Then go back to home page, select Storage Systems and register EMC Storage System. You can choose storage type on Storage system type menu and input the info of storage system.

After finished the VSI registration, you can provision EMC storage on VMware Web Client.
